When we hear the word “exercise,” most of us immediately envision the gym and the intense workouts that often take place there, causing some of us to turn our heads away. I’m guilty of this too, of committing to a regular workout routine as a lifestyle. But what if I told you there are enjoyable ways to get your exercise in without feeling like you’ve just completed an incredibly tough workout?

You see, I like to believe that before we learned what workouts were, or even knew of gyms, people found ways to stay fit. One of these ways is by engaging in outdoor activities. Nigeria, with its diverse landscapes, rich culture, and beautiful scenery, offers a plethora of exciting outdoor activities you can participate in.

Hiking in the Mountains and Hills

Nigeria is home to stunning mountain and hill ranges spread across the country. The Drakensberg Mountains are a must-visit for hiking enthusiasts. Explore the scenic landscapes, discover hidden waterfalls, and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding valleys. The mountains and hills offer hikes for all skill levels, making them accessible to beginners and experienced trekkers alike.

Go Wildlife Watching

For a taste of Africa’s abundant wildlife and a closer connection to nature, visit the zoos around you. While we may not have many wild animals in the country, there are reserves that still house an amazing selection of animals.

Paddle if you can, and take a swim whenever you have the chance. Just be cautious around the water and avoid going alone.

Walking
